"GONFALONE. Drappo di colore rosso, ornato di ricami
d'argento e caricato dello stemma comunale con la iscrizione
centrata in argento: Comune di Bibbiena (Decreto del Presidente
della Repubblica in data 2 marzo 1984). Il leone che regge alta
la bandiera ricorda il periodo in cui i fiorentini fecero
Bibbiena sede di podesteria, intorno alla meta’ del
Trecento.
Lo stemma e’ impresso sulla “cassetta degli
squittinii”, conservata nel municipio e risalente al secolo
XVI. In essa venivano depositati i nomi dei futuri magistrati del
comune. L’operazione dello “squittinio” aveva
luogo nel corso delle assemblee popolari. "
