Over the last several years a few parties have emerged aimed at Italian
voters in the Overseas Constituency (Circoscrizione Estero) that are entitled to
electing 2% of the parliamentary seats. The most successful is MAIE, currently
holding 3 seats in the Camera dei Deputati and 1 seat in the Senato. MAIE is
active in South America, that contains strong communities with Italian descent.
The symbol shows on a blue background the party abbreviation, party name and the
leader's name (Merlo) in white; furthermore a sketchy map of South America in
the Italian colours. The flag is white with the symbol [1].
