The Khalaj are a Turkic nation of Iran, numbering about 42,000 and living mostly in Markazi Province, northeast of the city of Arak. They are related to the Qashqai tribes and speak Turk Khalaj language, long thought to be a dialect of Azeri, until proven wrong. Now it is considered a separate language of the the Arghu branch of Turkic languages. The Khalaj Turks are Shia Muslims (overwhelming majority) and should not be confused with the Khalji (Ghilzai) of Afghanistan, who speak an Indo-Aryan language and are Sunni Muslims.
Their flag is a vertical tricolor of blue-red-green, separated by gold(?)
fimbriations. In the each stripe is white symbol: a tree-like symbol in the blue
stripe, a white crescent and 8-pointed star in the red stripe and 3 five-pointed
stars in the green stripe.
