The "نقابة الصحفيين العراقيين" (English: Iraqi Journalists Syndicate) is a
non-governmental organization as well as a professional union. It traces its
origins to "المادة الأربعين قانون المطبوعات الأول " (English: Article 40 of the
First Publications Law) passed on May 13, 1931. It was established on October
15, 1959 and recognized by the "قانون نقابة الصحفيين" (English: Journalists
Syndicate Law) on June 11, 1969 out of several local associations and unions
that were formed by journalists.

Its
flag is a white horizontal background with the logo in the middle, the logo
being a green map of the country with the organization's name in Arabic and a
fountain pen nib silhouette towards the hoist.
