The emblem in the form of a blue shield depicts a bracera - a type of boat that has originated on Brač since at least the 15th century; surmounted by the North Star, above the letter "M" that resembles the beams of the docks where it was built. The symbols do not follow the principles of contemporary Croatian heraldry and probably do not have the approval of the central authorities.
