The Town of Pleternica (12,883 inhabitants, according to the 2001 census, 3,739 in the town of Pleternica) is located some 10 km south-east of Požega at the gate of thr Požega Valley. In the 1992/93 reform, Pleternica was granted the Municipality status, which was upgraded to Town status in 1997.
