The Town of Belišće (11,786 inhabitants in 2001, 7,197 in the town of Belišće) was granted the Town status in 1997.

Flag of Belišće

The symbols of Belišće are prescribed by Decision Odluka o uporabi grba i zastave grada Belišća, adopted on 10 October 1997 by the Town Assembly and published on 30 October 1997 in the Town official gazette Službeni glasnik Grada Belišća, No. 4.
The symbols are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Belišća, adopted on 12 November 2001 by the Town Assembly and published in the Town official gazette Službeni glasnik Grada Belišća, No. 8 (text). This is repeated, with minor changes in wording, in the current Town Statutes Statut Grada Belišća, adopted on 15 July 2009 and published in Službeni glasnik Grada Belišća, No. 5 (text).

The municipality launched a public competition for the coat of arms and the flag by Decision Odluka o raspisivanju natječaja za izradu grba i zastave Općine Belišće, adopted on 20 February 1995 and published on 6 April 1995 in Službeni glasnik Općine Belišće, No. 1 (text). A five-memberd jury was appointed to review the proposals by Decision Rješenje o osnivanju i imenovanju Ocjenjivačkog suda za izradu grba i zastave Općine Belišće, adopted on 20 February 1995 and published on 6 April 1995 in Službeni glasnik Općine Belišće, No. 1. The winner of the contest was proclaimed by Decision Odluka o izboru likovnog rješenja grba i zastave Općine Belišće, adopted on 29 March 1995 and published on 6 April 1995 in Službeni glasnik Općine Belišće, No. 1. The winning design was proclaimed by Decision Odluka o izboru idejnog rješenja grba i zastave Općine Belišće, adopted on 4 April 1995 and published on 6 April 1995 in Službeni glasnik Općine Belišće, No. 1.

The symbols were designed by Branka Hanich.

The flag is described in Article 11 of the Decision as "in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms of the Town in the middle".
However, the flags in use, either horizontally (photo) or vertically (photo), with a somewhat smaller coat of arms, have an orange background. The table flag (photo) is the rotated version of the horizontal flag.

The coat of arms is described in the 2001 Statutes as "red shield with two white leaves and in base three white stripes (rivers)". The 2009 Statutes name the rivers that cross the Town's territory as Drava, Karašica, and Vučica.
