The flag and arms of Vela Luka are prescriebd by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi općine Vela Luka, adopted on 27 February 1996 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 4 March 1996 in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Vela Luka, No. 1.
The symbols were approved on 11 July 1996 by the Ministry of Administration.
The flag (photo) is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered white, in the middle.

The coat of arms is described in the Decision as "Azure a dove volant argent holding an olive-branch or a bordure argent".

The flag is also used with the coat of arms without the white border and a shade of blue notably different from the flag field (photo, photo).
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Vela Luka (text), adopted on 5 April 2006 by the Municipality Assembly. This is repeated in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Vela Luka, adopted on 14 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 20 July 2009 in Službeni glasnik Općine Vela Luka, No. 5 (text).
As the white border of the shield is mentioned in the Decision only in the fouth sentence, after the main description, the Statutes omit that detail,
thus never mentioning the border. The version of the coat of arms without the border is, therefore, an error, which may be justified by a literal reading of the Statutes.
