HKDU (website) was established on 20 December 1992 in Zagreb. The party obtained 2 seats in the Parliemant in 1995 and 1 seat in 2000 and 2003.

The flag of HKDU is prescribed in the party's statutes as a light blue flag with the party emblem in the middle, whose elements combine the Croatian checky shield and the Christian cross. Beneath the emblem is the acronym "HKDU" and in base the writing HRVATSKI DEMOKRŠĆANI (Croatian Christian Democrats), all in dark blue letters.
