The municipality of Stylida (12,750 inhabitants in 2011; 46,240 ha) was formed in the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the three former municipalities of Echinaioi (Εχιναίοι, 4,518 inh.), Pelasgia (Πελασγία, 3,310 inh.) and Stylida (6,126 inh.).
The port town of Stylida is situated on the northern shore of the Malian Gulf. In the ancient times, the town was named Phalara (Φάλαρα).
