Flag of Abdera

The flag of Abdera (photo, photo) is white with the municipal emblem (image) adopted in February 2012.
The emblem depicts the center of a ionic column, on the left Democritus, on the right a carnivorous horse of Diomedes, and below a wave and a green leaf. The emblem represents the classical past, history and thought of the philosophers of Abdera, the momentum of the man-eating horses of Diomedes, the lakes and seas of the municipality, the tobacco and celery from the region for its rural economy.

The former flag of Abdera (Kokkonis website) was very light pink with the former municipal emblem (image) in the center.
The emblem, adopted in 1999, shows a rosette coming from the Byzantine acropolis in Abdera, on which can be seen a portrait of the famous philosoph Democritus, who was a citizen of Abdera, and a griffin, which was the emblem of the ancient city and which protected the secrets of sea embracing the municipality.
