The municipality of Galatsi (59,345 inhabitants in 2011; 403 ha), is a northern suburbs of Athens. Until the mid-20th century, the area was mainly made up of farmlands but Galatsi was rapidly urbanised and now lies in the center of Greater Athens. It is a densely populated area but the forests of the hill of Tourkovounia (Τουρκοβούνια) and the park Alsos Veikou (Άλσος Βεΐκου), major green areas within the centre of Athens, are located in Galatsi..
The municipality was not changed with the 2011 local government reform.
