The Sussex Yacht Club was founded in 1892, but that is as much as I can find out
thus far.

Founded at Shoreham and was granted a defaced Blue Ensign in 1955. At one time
it shared premises (in Brighton), and was operated in conjunction with the
Sussex Motor Yacht Club (plain Blue Ensign), but this association came to an end
in the 1950s.

I notice that on the ensigns the yacht club has for sale: http://www.sussexyachtclub.org.uk/news.asp?pageid=1289, the charge is in the lower fly quarter.
