The flag represents the legend of
Saint Ethelbert who was murdered by King Offa when visiting the latter's palace,
believed to be sited in the parish. Here Offa is symbolised by the Saxon Crown,
his sword is shown below the upper crown to indicate his decapitation of
Ethelbert, whilst Ethelbert himself is represented with a Celestial Crown to
represent his martyrdom and sainthood. Where Ethelbert's head landed a spring
rose and is symbolised with the wavy line.
