The first Moth sailboat, a 11-ft boat, was designed in 1929 by Captain
Van Sant in Elizabeth City (North Carolina, USA). The Moth Boat class
was created in 1930; two years later, National Moth Boat
Association (NMBA) was created in order to set up the class rules,
which were maintained unchanged until 1965. NMBA was renamed in
1935 International Moth Class Association (IMCA) since the Moth had
became increasingly popular in Europe. The Moth declined in the 1970s
but was revived in 1990 with the creation of Classic Moth Boat
Association (CMBA).
The Moth was introduced in France in 1936. In January 2001, there were
28 Moth boats registered in France, excluding the Europe series, which
was derived form the Moth in the 1970s. The owner of those boats are
members of Association des Moth classiques.

The flag of the Association, as shown on its website, is white with the emblem of the Association in the middle. The emblem is made of a red Capital M surrounded by a blue ring. The website of the Association gives a detailed construction sheet for the emblem, which is slightly different of the emblem of CMBA.
