Émile Riotteau (1837-1927) was a shipowner and politican from
Granville. Mayor of Granville in 1882-1888, Riotteau was elected Representative of Manche in 1876-1877, 1878-1885 and 1887-1906.
Riotteau subsequently represented his department in the Senate, from 1906 to his death. When a Representative, he was mostly interested in
agriculture, especially in breeding of race horses; in the Senate,
however, he was mostly interested in navigation, being appointed Vice
President of the Navy Commission and rapporteur of different maritime
bills. Riotteau was also member of the Colonies' Higher Council, of
the Merchant Navy's Higher Council and of the Stud Farms' Higher
Council.

The Yearbook of the Central Committee of France Shipowners (1922) shows the house flag of Riotteau & Fils (& Sons) as vertically divided white-red with a white disk in the red stripe.
