Société des Vedettes et Bateaux Auxiliaires Morlaisiens (Morlaix Launch and Auxiliary Boats Company), based in Morlaix, northern
Brittany, operated a scheduled line between the port of Roscoff and
the Isle of Batz, located 2 miles off the coast.
The line is operated today by the Vedettes de l'Île de Batz, the
association of three local companies, Compagnie Finistérienne de
Transports Maritimes, Compagnie Armor Excursions and Compagnie
Maritime Armein, each operating two launches of 100 passengers each.
In summer season, a launch is scheduled ever 30 minutes.

The only information on the Vedettes et Bateaux
Auxiliaires Morlaisiens is an advertising lithograph made by Léon
Haffner (1881-1972). An experienced seaman and yachtman, Hafner was a
prolific drawer, painter, writer (Cent ans de marine de guerre,
1930), book illustrator and photographer, active from 1907 to 1970.
Appointed peintre officiel de la Marine (Official Painter of the
Navy) in 1918, Haffner has been quite forgotten until his work was
rediscovered in the 2000s; his books have been reprinted and his
gouaches are commonly sold in maritime auctions.
On Haffner's lithograph, the company house flag is shown as a blue
flag with the red letters "V M" placed along the descending diagonal.
Haffner was famous for his "photographic" style and the accuracy of
his representations, therefore, the company house flag was most
probably as represented on the lithograph.
