Joseph Larran (1876-1949) was a rich industrial established in
Peyrehorade, near Bayonne.
Born in a millers' family, Larran was the son-in-law of Pierre Saint-
Jean, a miller, Vice- President of the French Flour Trade, Industry
and a municipal councillor of Peyrehorade. An experienced rower,
Larran won the silver medal in single-sculls in the 1906 Athens
intercalated Olympic Games; in 1905-1910, he was appointed president
of Aviron Bayonnais, known today mostly as a rugby club, saving
the club from a big crisis.
Larran must have had ist own fleet to export grain. He is listed as
the owner of SS Normand, purchased in 1905.

The Yearbook of the Central Committee of France Shipowners (1922) shows the house flag of Joseph Larran as blue with the white letters "JL".
