Cobrecaf (Compagnie Bretonne de Cargos Frigorifiques), based in
Concarneau (South Brittany), is one of the world's leaders in the production of deep-freezed tropical tuna for the canning industry.
In 2004, the company was shared between the Société Thonière de Participation (64%), founded by three French shipowners, Jean-Yves Labbé, Jacques Kuhn and Jean-Marc Le Garrec, in partnership with the Dutch group Jackson, and Marine World Brands (36%), a private equity firm owner of the sea-oriented parts of the agri-food group Heinz, including the Breton fish canning company Paul Paulet (selling under
the brand Petit Navire). The ships of the company are now sailing
under the Cobrepêche brand.
In 2006, Cobrecaf operated eight ships, fishing every year 70,000 tons
of tuna for a turnover of 20 millions euros.
