The installation Voyages extraordinaires, by Simon Faithfull and Christoph Keller, was presented from 7 February to 16 May 2010 in the CRAC (Centre Rhénan d'Arts Contemporains d'Alsace), located in the town of Altkirch.
The installation includes Flags, by Christophe Keller, made of three flags (120 x 180 cm each) hoisted over the entrance of the CRAC bulding. The national flags of Switzerland, France and Germany (Altkirch is located close to the border with Switzerland and Germany) are "countercoloured", that is, with the genuine colours replaced by the complementary ones. According to Keller, the flags look familiar but are unknown to us, casting doubt on their attribution and function; he expects to shift our perception and emphasize its relativity: what seems to us amazing, unknown, exotic, is, indeed what is closest to us. Keller has also placed a plexiglas plaque over the entrance, charged with the first sentence of Claude Lévi-Strauss' Tristes tropiques, Je hais les voyages et les explorateurs (I hate voyages and explorers).
