Toucy (2,569 inhabitants in 2021; 3,485 ha) is located in north-western Burgundy, on river Yonne.
The Church of St. Peter in Toucy, backing onto the 12th-century fortifications, overlooks the town. Toucy was the birthplace and hometown of Pierre Larousse, lexicographer and founder of the publishing house that would later produce one of the most highly popular French dictionaries, Le Petit Larousse.

The flag of Toucy is white with coat of arms: photo (2018).
The arms of Toucy are blazoned: Azure a key Or pointing downwards, the chief Or four martlets gules.
This coat of arms is inspired by that of Guillaume de Toucy, bishop of Auxerre, traces of which can be found on a stained glass window in the Chapelle des Seigneurs within the church of Saint-Pierre. The key is for Saint-Peter. The martlets would first of all represent enemies defeated and killed on the battlefield. According to another interpretation, they would designate the crusades, the cut beaks and legs would be signs of injuries.
