Puygouzon (3,549 inhabitants; 1,996 ha) is a commune in the Tarn department, near Albi.
Although the first dwellings in the old hamlet of Puygouzon can be
dated to around the 13th century, human settlement on the site is much
older, and fragments of Gallo-Roman-style pottery have been found. The
red and very clayey earth of the commune could have been extracted and
used for the manufacture of pottery, briquettes and other terracotta
pieces in very ancient times.
In 1827, the former commune of Montsalvy merged with Puygouzon merged.
On 1 January 2017, the former commune of Labastide-Dénat was merged
into Puygouzon.
