Lunas-les-Châteaux (820 inhabitants, 6,366 ha) is a commune in the Hérault department. It was formed on 1 January 2025, with the merger of the former communes of Lunas (672 inhabitants) and Dio-et-Valquières.
The history of the village of Lunas dates back to the Roman road that linked the lower Languedoc to Rouergue via the pass of Pétafy, and found along its route some important points such as Faugères, Boussagues and Lunas. Surely succeeding a Gallo-Roman oppidum, "villa Launates" is mentioned as early as 804-806 in a charter of the abbey of Gellone. In the Middle Ages, Lunas was dominated by the castle of Redondel (1118). This castle was razed in 1627 on the orders of Montmorency.
The leisure center of La Prade is a fun outdoor aquatic area located in Lunas, managed by the Grand Orb community of communes.
