The municipality of Balaruc-le-Vieux (2,648 inhabitants in 2018; 592 ha) is located 10 km north of Sètre, at the northern end of the Éng de Thau. The municipality was established on 11 December 1886 when Balaruc split into Balaruc-le-Vieux and Balaruc-les-Bains.
