The municipality of La Loupe (3,334 inhabitants in 2018, 727 ha) is located 50 km west of Chartres.
La Loupe was belonged to the diocese of Chartres, bailed out to Theubald the Great, count of Champagne and Chartres, who died in 1152. The domain was
inherited in 1232 by the Count of Sancerre. His son, Étienne de Saint-Coesair, count of Perche, had the Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs chapel built at the foot of the castle.
In the 14th century, the domain passed successively into the families of Melun, Préaux, La Revière and Angennes. On 26 August 1393, La Loupe was sold to Renaud II d'Angennes, Lord of Rambouillet. The feudal manor, destroyed by the English in the 15th century, was rebuilt in 1574.
On 17 June 17 1944, in the early evening, the downtown was mistakenly bombarded by seven Allied bombers which missed the planned target, a German petrol depot. The toll iwass heavy: 73 people are killed, including the mayor, and more than 100 were injured; 92 buildings were destroyed, 83 became uninhabitable and around 250 were damaged. La Loupe, the most affected town of the Second World War in Eure-et-Loir, was awarded the WWII Cross of War on 11 November 1948.
