Cormeilles (1,136 inhabitants, 305 ha) is a commune located in the Eure department.

The name of the locality is attested in the forms Cormeliæ in 1060, Cormelias in 1105, and Cormelliæ in 1234. The toponym Cormeilles comes from the Old French word *cormeille*, plural of the Old French word
*cormeille*, meaning "a type of fruit," which likely meant "rowan tree, a group of rowan trees." A town within the Norman ducal domain, Cormeilles was given in the 12th century to Raoul, Count of Ivry and Bayeux. In the mid-11th century, William FitzOsbern founded Notre-Dame Abbey there, which is now located within the territory of Saint-Pierre-de-Cormeilles. The abbey has since been completely destroyed. Several parishes comprised Cormeilles: Saint-Pierre, Saint-Sylvestre, and Sainte-Croix, which the French Revolution divided into three distinct communes: Saint-Pierre-de-Cormeilles, Saint-Sylvestre-de-Cormeilles, and Cormeilles.

Cormeilles was renowned for its linen production and, in the 18th century, for its significant leather trade. At that time, it was the second largest trading center in the region after Pont-Audemer for leather goods.
