Olemps (3,531 inhabitants, 1,279 ha) is a commune in the Aveyron department
Before the Revolution, the territory of the commune was part of the
parish of Saint-Amans. After the Revolution, the territory of the
current commune of Olemps (Olemps, Cassagnettes, Lagarrigue, La
Mouline, Malan, Puech-Camp, Cayssiols, and Toizac) was part of the
town hall of Sainte-Radegonde.
The commune of Olemps was created by ordinance of King Louis-Philippe
I on July 3, 1837, and incorporated La Mouline, Puech-Camp, Toizac,
Cassagnettes, Lagarrigue, Malan, and Caissiols. Olemps experienced
rapid expansion around the major railway bridges of the 19th century
(especially La Mouline).
Today, Olemps is a small town (with annex
hospital, supermarket, industrial park, etc.)
