I've lived on Weno; there are several steep rises on the island which were
used by various occupying military forces for lighthouses, lookouts, and
weaponry. The image on the flag, which you describe as either a mountain or an
octopus is actually both. On the island is a small "mountain" which is visible
from Nepakos, the largest municipality. The natives call this mountain "The
octopus" because of its shape and that the trees growing down the side look like
tentacles. I've attached a picture here.
