In the book, by Peter George, Commander 1, Dell, New York, 1965, page 246 there is a description of the flag of the fictional United States of the World.
Set in a near, post-apocalyptic world, the flag is described as;
"Outside the hut the new flag of the United States of the World flew at the head of the newly erected flag pole. The flag had at its top left quarter a replica of the old flag of the U.S.A., while on the rest was a white globe set against a deep blue background."
The author also wrote Red Alert, which was loosely the genesis for the movie
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (aka Dr.
Strangelove).

This is in effect a US blue ensign. I wonder if he meant a globe with
just the meridians etc. shown or a "map" one? If the latter, it could
only show one hemisphere, although given the US flag in the canton it
would likely be the Western. It could also be a UN-style azimuthal
projection or a pseudo-globe with the continents inside a disc, like
the Space: Above and Beyond UN flag. But the former is easier to draw
