European Union flag with ukrainian Tryzub - Image located by Martin Karner, 25 February 2026
On 24 February 2026, on a demonstration in Bratislava (Slovakia) in support of Ukraine and against Prime Minister and Putin friend Fico: A European Flag with the Ukrainian yellow Tryzub in the center, surrounded by the twelve stars.

What we're talking about, here, is that the EU flag is kind of a "Maintiendrai" flag. Like the flag of the Dutch ruler conquering England, with his "Je Maintiendrai" begging the question "WHAT is it you intend to maintain?", the flag of the EU has a big blue field in its centre, inviting anybody to add something there. In the case of Ukraine EU relations, I read this as a friendship flag.
