The original flag of the Maritime Province of A Coruña was white with a blue saltire. It was modified on 22 June 1891, leaving just one diagonal arm of the cross, "to avoid the difficulties that could arise, confusing the ensign of the Russian Empire with that of the maritime province of La Coruña".
