The municipality of Aspariegos (297 inhabitants in 2009; 4,216 ha) is located in the northwest of Zamora Province, 25 km from Zamora.

Symbols of Aspariegos

The flag and arms (municipal website) of Aspariegos are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 14 November 2003 by the Municipal Council, signed on 21 May 2004 by the Mayor, and published on 10 June 2004 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 110, p. 7,922 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:3, made of the three colors of the coat of arms, green as a right-angled triangle [in the lower left part], red in the middle, and blue as a right-angled triangle in the upper right part.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Azure a church tower argent, masoned sable cantonned with four stars or, 2a. Gules an axe argent hilted or, 2b. Vert semy of wheat spikes or, grafted in base argent wavy azure. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.

The upper part of the shield represents the municipality, the four stars standing for the four deserted villages of Canillos, Fradejas, Grajalejo and Monzón.
The axe represents a Prehistoric flint axe found in Pago de Valbodón.
The waves represent river Valderaduey, which waters the municipality.
Blue represents the beauty of the place and the nobleness of its inhabitants.
Red symbolizes the honor and valiance of its inhabitants.
Green symbolizes the fields in springtime.
Argent represents the purity of the memory of its old inhabitants.
Gold symbolizes the splendor of its history and of the today's people.
