The municipality of La Calzada de Oropesa (539 inhabitants in 2018; 14,222 ha; municipal website) is located on the border with Extremadura (Province of Cacéres), 130 km west of Toledo and 50 km west of Talavera de la Reina.
La Calzada de Oropesa is of probable Roman founation, on the causeway (calzada) that connected Emerita Augusta (Mérida), Caesarobriga (Talavera) and Toletum (Toledo); a late Roman necropolis was excavated in Laguna de las Limas in 1988, during the building of the Extremadura motorway. La Calzada belonged to Oropesa until granted the status of villa on 20 January 1642 by Philip IV, together with the neighboring village of Carrascalejo, to form the Council of La Calzada and Carrascalejo. After the abandon of Carrascalejo, the village was renamed to La Calzada de Oropesa, for the sake of differenciation from other villages named La Calzada.

The flag of La Calzada de Oropesa is prescribed by an Order issued on 17 November 1998 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 4 December 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 57, p. 9,556 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Composed of three horizontal stripes, in proportions 1/4, 1/2, and 1/4, the outer stripes, white, and the central, red with a yellow Royal crown open.
The coat of arms of La Calzada de Oropesa is prescribed by an Order issued on 17 November 1998 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 4 December 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 57, p. 9,556 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Argent a fess gules a Royal crown or. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
