The Municipal Council adopted in 1998 or 1999 a blue, green and brown flag, which was rejected by the Court. The same design was approved again by the Municipal Council in 2000 or 2001 but the relevant documentation was lost. Nothing has happened since then.

The coat of arms of El Tanque is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 1 June 1998 by the Government of the Canary Islands and published on 27 July 1988 in the official gazette of the Canary Islands, No. 95, p. 1,896 (text).
The coat of arms, approved by the Royal Academy of History, is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Tierced per mantel, 1. Or a pine tree vert, 2. Gules a sheaf of five ears of wheat or, mantel azure a mount of three peaks vert fimbriated argent and issuing therefrom a stream running into a tank. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), the pine represents the woods of the mountains, the ears represent the five settlements forming the municipality, the mount represents the volcanic eruptions experienced by the village, the stream represents the profusion of water; the tank (estanque), which existed in La Hoya, is the town's namesake.
