The municipality of Pizarral (58 inhabitants in 2020 vs. 314 in 1940; 1,667 ha; municipal website) is located 50 km south of Salamanca and 40 km north of Béjar. The municipality is composed of the village of Pizarral and of the depopulated village of Torozos.
Ivan Sache, 5 December 2020
The flag and arms of Pizarral are prescribed by an Agreement adopted on 8 October 2020 by the Municipal Council, signed on 18 November 2020 by the Mayor, and published on 26 November 2020 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 246, p. 47,914 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular panel in proportions 2:3 (width on length). Vertically divided, blue at hoist, yellow at fly and white in the center, charged with the municipal coat of arms, in width, 2/5 of the flag's width.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1a. Argent a slate wall proper, 1b. Azure a rosary argent in an oval orle, 2. Or a cow sable belled proper. The shield surmounted by a Spanish Royal crown closed.
Pizarral is named for slate (pizarra), common in the area and used to build the village's dwellings and church. The four slate bridges of Pizarral are most probably unique in the province of Salamanca (municipal website).
The Virgin of the Rosary, celebrated on 7 October, is the village's patron saint (municipal website).
