On 26th of May 2022:
Heraldry had its chapter in the second Consello de la Xunta presided over by Alfonso Rueda with the approval of various insignia destined for different concellos, among them, that of Soutomaior.
The Council approved this Wednesday the final version of the flag: a standard with a blue background in which the center is occupied by a large white castle and the edges are surrounded by a checkered pattern in yellow and red squares.
The approval decree comes after the symbolic element received the approval of the Heraldry Commission of the Xunta, last April, and the Council began the process to be able to have a new flag in the plenary session last month September 2021. Throughout the process, the Council has relied on the Heraldry Commission of the Xunta, since it is the entity that safeguards the current regulations regarding these symbols and the role of the history of each locality in its representation. Heraldry's proposal also had to be approved by the Corporation's plenary session.

The City Council adds this flag to its distinctive and representative elements: the heraldic shield, the adaptation of that image for the official logo.
The Council also approved the coat of arms and the flag of Punxín (Ourense), as well as the coat of arms of the A Coruña municipality of Mugardos and the flag of Alfoz (Lugo).
The Galician Government has approved 274 shields and flags of the local entities of Galicia within the Heraldic Commission, always at the request of the councils, who demand to adopt, modify or rehabilitate their symbols. The municipalities and other local entities of Galicia can adopt their own heraldic shields and flags, modify the existing ones or rehabilitate those that were historically used.
No local entity in Galicia may use a heraldic shield or flag that has not been approved by the Xunta.
