The flag is purple, and has the municipal arms in the center. This arms represents the imperial arms of Charles I, as used in 1520. The municipality adopted these arms in 1864, as a privilege granted by the King to commemorate the (first) landing of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V's ship in Spain, at the coast of Villaviciosa.

The image is impressive, considering the fact the COA is doubly quartered throughout, and triply quartered in spots, i.e., 1/64 of the whole shield; moreover there are two identical inescutcheons in main quarters 2 and 3, also about 1/64 of the shield.
The triple quarterings are so small that the curvature of the shield at the bottom obliterates much of the areas of two of them, in quarters 3 and 4...
