Introduction

The municipality of Armañanzas (78 inhabitants in 2005) is located in the south-west of Navarra, in the "comarca" (district) of Tierra Estella Occidental. The village is built on a small hill; its main sighting is the Santa Maria church, which has an altarpiece made around 1560 by an unknown artist (but often attributed to Andrés de Araoz' workshop) [1]. The wine produced in Armañanzas is entitled to bear the name of "Navarra."

Description

The official portal of the Government of Navarra reported on 5 March 2007 [2] the approval of the definitive design of the flag of Armañanzas, whose provisory design had been adopted by the Municipal Council in 2006. The heraldic description of the flag is the following:

"Fondo blanco y en el centro, escudo de la localidad, consistente en una trae de gules y una estrella de seis puntas de otro, cortado de gules y cinco benzantes de oro, puestos en souter. En punta un creciente de plata y sobre él, una flor de lis de oro.
White background with the municipal arms in the middle, which are "gules a seven-pointed star or five bezants of the same placed in saltire, in base a crescent argent surmounted by a fleur-de-lis or." The flag follows the rules set by Article 26 of Regional Law ("Ley Foral") 6/1990, which states that "it is forbidden to use the flag of Spain, of Navarra or of any other autonomous community as the background of the flag of municipalities or other local entities."
