The municipality of Villar del Pozo (86 inhabitants in 2018; 1,323 ha) is located 30 km south-west of Ciudad Real.
Villar del Pozo was established as a small settlement whose inhabitants
were supplied freshwater by a well (pozo). The village was first
documented in 1226, when donated to the Order of Saint John by Alfonso
Téllez, García Fernández and Ordoño Álvarez, probably its first settlers. The Order chartered Villar del Pozo in 1228 but the new
settlement did not increase as expected.
When chartering Villa Real (Ciudad Real) in 1255, Alfonso X the Wise
incorporated in its territory several hamlets, Villar del Pozo included.
This resulted in a lawsuit initiated by the Order, whose rights on
Villar were recognized on 25 December 1289.
In the middle of the 19th century, the medicinal water of the Hervideros
fountain was used in "mineral baths" of regional fame.

The flag of Villar del Pozo is prescribed by an Order issued on 10
February 1998 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on
20 February 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 9,
p. 1,451 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, tierced in base, flesh, white and yellow. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.
The coat of arms of Villar del Pozo is prescribed by an Order issued on
10 February 1998 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published
on 20 February 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No.
9, p. 1,451 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Gules a cross of Saint John of Jerusalem (or Malta) argent, 2a. Or a town gules represented by three fesses of houses, 2b. Argent a well gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
