The Municipality of Monturque has its own symbols, although the date of the adoption is unknown.
NOTE: Images in Wikipedia and in Simbolos de Córdoba contain different versions of the crown on the coat of arms and on the flags.
Description: Shield divided. First, azure, a rampant silver lion holding a sword of the same in its right paw. Second, argent, a red cross of St. James. A bordure vert with eight reversed silver crescents. For a crest, an open royal crown and an external ornament of mantling.
Meaning: The lion symbolizes the Royal Charter of Córdoba, granted to Monturque by Ferdinand III, the Saint, in 1242, a few years after its reconquest. The cross represents the Military Order of Santiago , whose knights played a decisive role in the reconquest of many towns in the Córdoba countryside, including Monturque. The crescents represent the privilege granted by King Alfonso XI to all the towns that took part in the Battle of Salado in 1340.
The coat of arms was designed by D. Manuel S. Lac, Official Chronicler of one hundred and fifty municipalities in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century, in the year 1906, at the request of the then mayor of the town, D. Rafael de Lara Jiménez, apparently due to a certain controversy raised by which it was intended to impose on Monturque the same emblem of the neighboring town of Aguilar, because it had once belonged to the lordship of the same name.
