The flag and arms of Herreruela, adopted on 31 March 1991, 11 February and 12 December 1992 by the Municipal Council and validated on 128 January 1992, 24 November 1992 and 15 February 1993 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 8 March 1993 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 23 March 1993 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 35, pp. 861-863 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, composed of three horizontal stripes: White, charged in the center the municipal coat of arms in full colors, green, and white, in respective proportions 6:8, 1:8, and 1:8.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Sable slate tombs argent, 2. Argent a cross of the Order of Alcántara vert. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The first quarter features the anthropomorphic tombs found in La Horma, near the road heading to Brozas. The tombs, dated to the late Roman or early Christian periods (3rd-4th centuries), have a rectangular structure, narrowing at the foot ends.
The second quarter recalls that Herreruela, like most settlements in the area, belonged to the Order of Alcántara until the late 18th century.
