Presentation of Quintanaélez

The municipality of Quintanaélez (71 inhabitants in 2010; 1,747 ha) is located in the northeast of the Province of Burgos, 60 km of Burgos. The municipality is made of the villages of Quintanaélez (58 inh., capital), Marcillo (10 inh.), Quintanilla cabe Soto (2 inh.) and Soto de Bureba (1 inh.).

Symbols of Quintanaélez

The flag of Quintanaélez, adopted on 13 September 2000 by the Municipal Council, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 11 October 2000 by the Burgos Provincial Government, signed on 19 October 2000 by the President of the Government, and published on 8 November 2000 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 216, p. 13,660 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Quadrangular flag, with proportions 1:1. Two equal horizontal stripes, red on top and blue on bottom. In the middle of the flag is placed a yellow castle with blue port and windows.

The Royal Academy of History recalled that the coat of arms used on the flag had been rejected by the Academy, and, therefore, refused to approve the proposed flag.

The coat of arms of Quintanaélez is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 10 September 1998 by the Burgos Provincial Government, signed on 28 September 1998 by the President of the Government, and published on 7 October 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 193 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Gules a castle of Castile surrounded by a spike or and a scythe of the same, 2. Azure four towers or masoned sable per saltire in the middle a column with a Romanesque capital. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.
