Presentation of Avellanosa de Muñó

The municipality of Avellanosa de Muñó (127 inhabitants in 2010; 3,689 ha; municipal website) is located 50 km of Burgos. The municipality is made of the villages of Avellanosa de Muñó (34 inh.; capital), Paúles del Agua (32 inh.), Pinedillo (28 inh.) and Torrecitores (33 inh.).

Avellanosa de Muñó was mentioned for the first time in 1030. The village was originally divided into two parts, the Santo Domingo de Silos borough, an abadengo (abbey domain) part of the alfoz (group of villages) of Muñó and the Duke's borough, a señorio (feudal domain) part of the alfoz of Lerma, named for the Dukes of Lerma.

Symbols of Avellanosa de Muñó

The flag of Avellanosa de Muñó, adopted on 20 March 2000 by the Municipal Council, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 13 July 2000 by the Burgos Provincial Government, signed on 19 July 2000 by the President of the Government and published on 7 August 2000 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 152, p. 9,635 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Quadrangular flag, vert, charged with a bend or with proportions 2:10. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms of Avellanosa de Muñó is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 14 October 1999 by the Burgos Provincial Government, signed on 17 November 1999 by the President of the Government and published on 29 November 1999 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 230, pp. 11,586-11,587 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Vert a writing case or made of two ink pots on a common base. In each inkpot a quill fimbriated or. Cantonned with four nail heads or four-pointed stars (of general use) of the same 1 + 2 + 1 surmounted with a Royal crown closed. The shield surmounted with the same Royal crown.
