Presentation of Manchita

The municipality of Manchita (765 inhabitants in 2019; 3,820 ha; municipal website) is located 100 km east of Badajoz and 30 km south-west of Don Benito.

Manchita's legendary foundation is simlar to that of Guadalupe; in 1450, the Virgin appeared to a shepherd on an olive tree, which prompted the erection of a chapel dedicated to María Santísima de la Mancha, subsequently renamed to Nuestra Señora de la Natividad o Asunción. The village that developed nearby was named La Mancha, susbsequently renamed to Manchita (Small Mancha) due to its reduced size.
