In 1983, the councilor Josep Llurba (Bloc Democràtic d’Esquerres) goes make a proposal to create the flag of the municipality. Cervelló did not yet have an official shield
Culture councilor Joan Dólera goes make the necessary arrangements with the corresponding organisms and in 1984 the Plenary session of the City Council created and approved a flag, but the Generalitat, which is the competent body, did not approve it. A flag, with a blue deer and three horizontals bands, the central one dark blue and the other two colored yellow, was used, but in an unofficial way.
The shield was adopted under the new recommendations of the heraldist Armand de Fluvià.

In 2006, the Plenary initiates a new expedient for make it official and ask for technical assistance to the Generalitat to prepare the project. However, the expedient is stopped and after the time, expiration is declared and archived the performances.
In July of 2017, a new expedient was started again, which incorporated the adviser's report of Heraldry and Genealogy of Catalonia, Armand de Fluvià, with the dimensions and the colors that the design of the flag should have. The report provided both options that he had already proposed in the past, one with the yellow background and the drawing of the deer dark blue of the shield in the center, and the other, with three horizontal bands, with the central one dark blue and the other two colored yellow.
According to the initial proposals flag by this adviser of Heraldry and Genealogy of Catalonia, the City Council asks the opinion of the citizens of Cervelló to express which of the two proposals he likes the most. For a large majority came up with the proposal that finally approved, based on the shield municipal heraldic, incorporating the deer dark blue representing the barony of Cervelló on a yellow background.
