Vega de Santa María is a rural village, whose lands are managed
collectively by the Asunción de Nuestra Señora cooperative; the members of the cooperative are the colonists - or they descendants -
who purchased in the 1950s the lands formerly owned by the Marchioness
of San Saturnino.
María de la Natividad Quindós y Villarroel (1863-1953), 7th and last Marchioness of San Saturnino, Grandee of Spain, 3rd Duchess of La
Conquista, 14th Marchioness of Los Palacios and Gracia Real and
Viscountess of La Frontera, married Francisco de Asís Arias Dávila Matheu Bernardo de Quirós, Count of Cumbres Altas, Grandee of Spain, Senator and Ambassador of Spain at the Holy See. Maria de la Natividad was appointed Dama, and, subsequently, Camerara Mayor of Queen Maria Christina of Austria.
