The municipality of Tiñosillos (841 inhabitants in 2010; 2,725 ha) is located in the north of the Province of Ávila.
Tiñosillos was the site of the first women's Trappist monastery in Spain, founded on 5 October 1884 in Ávila by Bishop Ciriaco Sancha y Hervás and transferred on 6 January 1885 to the Santa María de los Ángeles monastery in Tiñosillos; the community was subsequently transferred to Alloz, Navarra (Diario de Ávila, 26 December 2009).
Ivan Sache, 10 May 2011
The flag and arms of Tiñosillos are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 21 January 1994 by the Provincial Government, signed on 24 January 1994 by the President of the Government; and published on 11 February 1994 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 29 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Horizontally divided into two equal stripes. Dimensions: Rectangular, 1 m x 2 m. Colors: The same as on the coat of arms, on top, green, on bottom, gold. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Shield in Spanish shape. Or a bend wavy azure and argent cantonned with two pines proper, a bordure vert four spikes or in the cantons four ceramic jars argent in chief base and flanks. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown.
The Royal Academy of History recommended to modify the proposed coat
of arms, which includes charges unusual in Spanish heraldry. The
Academy recalled that local arms should use a restricted number of
charges and not all possible combinations of elements, the same way a
language does not use all possible combinations of sounds. The bend
wavy longitudinally divided into three parts is questionable; waves
are the adequate charge to represent a river. The vases in the bordure
should have a colour sufficiently contrasting with that of the bordure
itself. The amended arms would be "Or two pines vert on waves azure
and argent a bordure vert four wheat spikes or and four vases of the
same. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown".
There is no objection to the adoption of the proposed flag.
