Description

According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama:

  • flag adopted by the Diputación Provincial on 26th October 1956 and by Decree of 10th May 1957: "Color blanco, cruzada perpendicularmente con una estrecha banda roja y, en el centro, el escudo provincial", i.e. white with a red cross with the provincial coat-of-arms in the center;
  • coat-of-arms adopted by decree of the 10th May 1957:
    Dividido en cuatro cuarteles:
    1. en el superior derecha, las barras simbólicas del antiguo Reino de Aragón;
    2. en el superior izquierda, sobre campo de azur, un toro estante bajo la estrella de plata de la ciudad y antigua comunidad de Teruel;
    3. en el inferior derecho la imagen, sobre campo de plata, de Santa María de la Ciudad y Comunidad de Albarracín;
    4. en el inferior izquierda, sobre campo de plata, el castillo torreado de la ciudad y antiguo Corregimiento de Alcañiz flanqueado por dos cañas.
    En el centro, un sobreescudo, en campo de gules, la figura de San Jorge, Patrón de Aragón, a caballo luchando con el dragón. Sobrepuesta una corona real abierta al conjunto, adornando también el lado de la derecha con una palma y el lado de la izquierda con un ramo de laurel.
