In the province of Alicante, there are several municipalities that have the Aragonese colours (yellow flag with four red stripes) with the municipal CoA in the center. The municipality of Planes (38,9 km² and 839 hab., 2008) is located in the comarca of El Comtat (Spanish: Condado de Cocentaina).

Descripción
«Escudo ibérico, cortado. En el primer cuartel, en campo de oro, dos lobos pasantes de sable, puestos en palo; bordura de gules, cargada de ocho veneras y ocho eses de oro, alternadas. En el segundo cuartel, en campo de oro, cuatro palos de gules, resaltados de castillo de plata. Al timbre, corona real abierta.»

"Description:
Iberian shield, docked. In the first quarter, in a gold field, two wolves passant, placed per pale; gules bordure charged in gold with eight seashells and eight S's. In the second quarter, in a gold field, four bars gules, overlaid with a silver castle. Surmounted by an open royal crown.
Derivation:
Arms of the dukes of Maqueda, long-ago lords of the area, with the royal arms overlaid with a castle, in memory of an ancient fortress."
