local tradition explains that the place was named by a traveler for the tree he
had rested under and enjoyed the fruits, a quince (Spanish: "membrillo").

The flag of Membrillal is divided green-yellow by an ascending diagonal. A
red torch is placed in the center of the flag while two white four-pointed stars
are placed in upper hoist and lower fly.
